Ministry Teams

Everyone who attends the Church at Clarendon is encouraged to serve.  There are a number of ministry teams and leadership opportunities that allow you to work with other members of the church to serve both members in the church and outside.  Every person has a gift and calling and each individual is an important member of the body.

Below, please find a list of current teams and opportunities to get involved.  If any strike your fancy, or you just want more info, email the contacts listed, or talk to Stephen Taylor, Director of Community Life (stephen@1bc.org).

Don’t know where to start? Check out our serving interest form, and either email it to Stephen Taylor (stephen@1bc.org) or bring it to church on Sunday! (Worship time: 11am)

Mission Team

The Mission Team is open to church members/attendees passionate about serving. The Mission Team serves The Church at Clarendon by connecting with identified mission partners and overseeing the allocation of the church’s mission budget line items. The team meets regularly to discuss ways to promote mission education within the congregation. The leaders or this team are co-chairs Julie Justus (jjust4all@yahoo.com) and Rachel Sparico (rsparico@gmail.com).

The Cardwriters Team

The Cardwriters Team, currently headed by Joan Packer, formed in the late 1990’s and has continued year-round since then to send church-provided notes to people for birthdays, anniversaries, and sometimes other special occasions. Cardwriting volunteers typically each taking one month of the year.  Joan’s email is joan.packer5@gmail.com if you are interested in joining the team.

Hospitality Team

This team includes volunteers who bring food, those who prepare and stage the breakfast served each Sunday morning, and those involved in checking in on and procuring supplies needed for hospitality.  The team manages the kitchen next to Welcome Hall and helps coordinate support for special events as requested.  The leaders of this team are Lisa Carr and Rob Ryland.  If you’re interested in joining, contact Lisa Carr (lisa.carr@hhs.gov).

Nursery Team

This team arranges for volunteers in the nursery every Sunday and works hard to ensure a healthy environment for our youngest children.  Michelle Longo heads this team, and paid nursery staff include Vivian Chavez, Kalyn Tuttle, and Cari Jankowski.  Volunteers rotate through the nursery in teams of two according to a rotating schedule.  To volunteer in nursery, email Michele at Michele@longofest.net.

Meal Train

When a church member has a baby, is sick or caring for someone who is, has recently experienced a loss, or just needs some extra help, Taylor Jones sets up a Meal Train for people to sign up and bring food to that person’s home or arrange a delivery.  To receive an email directly when a Meal Train is needed, please contact Taylor at rtljones@gmail.com.

Welcome Team

The Pump Up Team meets during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday school hour to study the word of God, connect with each other, and get “pumped up” to serve God through greeting, ushering, hospitality, children’s ministry, and special events.  To join or get involved, contact Stephen Taylor (stephen@1bc.org).

Kitchen Team

Anytime there is a special event with cooking at church required, this is the team to make it happen!  Trained in using the kitchen equipment — and amazing cooks, too!  Contact Tanya (Sunshyne) Gantt for more information (tfsada1@verizon.net).

If you have a team that is making things happen and aren’t on this list, please let Church Moderator Michele Longo know at Michele@longofest.net and she’ll make sure to get you listed.

DJ Rick Solo:October18

Rick-Solo

This fall, the Church at Clarendon is hosting a FREE concert series in the month of October.  DJ Rick Solo will be performing on Saturday, October 18th, at 8pm.  Come check him out!

Rick Solo began his DJ career back in 1997, and has played alongside some of the most talented national and international artists, in dozens of venues throughout the southeastern region of the US.  During the early years, Solo was predominantly featured in nightclubs, as a major player in the rave scene in Charlotte, NC. After nearly two decades of living a reckless, chaotic lifestyle and still coming up empty Rick surrendered his life to the Lord, and abandoned his DJ career……or so he thought.

In 2012 his life was changed by God, through Elevation Church, and he was raised to life in Christ! He never thought that the Lord would see fit to bless him back with the very thing he surrendered to Him, but He did. In spring of 2013 Solo was asked to be a resident Elevation DJ, and in 2014 took on the role of an audio engineer, producing weekly house mixes for all 11 locations, and the Elevation Network.

Rick is a happily married father of one, an entrepreneur of automotive and mobile DJ businesses, Co-Program Director of a faith based non-profit organization, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ.

Check out a sample of DJ Rick Solo’s music!

Welcome

Clarendon 2         Clarendon 8

The Church at Clarendon is a diverse urban church.  Our community has a wide range of age and social groups, backgrounds, beliefs, and nationalities.  You are invited to join us for Sunday worship at 11:00am, Sunday school at 10am, or one of our other environments.

When you arrive at the Church at Clarendon, you can expect to experience a community reflective of God’s Kingdom.  The diversity here is reflective of the DC region and the world.  The music during our worship service is contemporary instruments (guitar, keyboard, drums, bass) drawing on new and old compositions, and sung with heartfelt praise.

Clarendon 7            Clarendon 9

If you want to connect with a community and meet others in your Christian journey, our congregation is small enough that this is easy to do.  The best way to do this beyond Sunday worship is to participate in one of the many fellowship events and small group environments we offer.  However, if you prefer to participate in Sunday worship but keep to yourself, our sanctuary is big enough that you can do that to.  We are affirming to the seeker, supportive of the established believer, and challenging to those who seek to deepen their faith and service.

All are welcome in our house.
